Less Miserable? What?
It's a twist on Les Mis: this show is the story of Les Miserables told with Gilbert and Sullivan songs and snippets of dialogue. There are some singing roles and some non-singing roles.
Here's the break down:
- W. S. Gilbert - Speaking role - Excitable, extrovert
- Arthur Sullivan - Speaking role - Serious, measured
- John Well Wells - Tenor/Baritone (large role including singing and dialogue) - Confident, strong sense of duty, angered by injustice
- Jasper - Baritone - Self-important, relishing his authority, threatening
- Bishop of Sodor and Man - Baritone - Serious, religious
- Scynthius - Baritone - Big ego, rather vain
- Aline - Soprano - Sickeningly sweet and bright
- Constance - Soprano/Mezzo Soprano - Very self-assured, ready to conquer the world
- Josephine - Soprano/Mezzo Soprano - Grounded, good fun, great friend to Scyhthius despite unrequited love
- Duke - Baritone - Disenchanted comedian and landlord
- Duchess - Mezzo Soprano - Extrovert, bubbly landlady
- Pirate King - Mezzo Soprano - Big character, strong leader, good sense of humour
- King Paramount - Mezzo Soprano - Posh, affable and absent-minded
- Ensemble of Savoyards, Villagers, Inn rabble, Factory Workers, Rebels and Soldiers
