Spring 2005: The Gondoliers

Notes

My idea for the Mardi Gras 1950's version of Gondoliers came when my husband mentioned that there was a swamp near New Orleans called Barataria. In 1950, Frank Loesser, Abe Burrows and Jo Swerling adapted two of Damon Runyon's stories, 'The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown' and 'Blood Pressure', for Broadway under the title of one of Runyon's first collections, Guys and Dolls. The 1950's also contained other memorable musicals including An American in Paris, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, The King and I, Pajama Game, Singin' in the Rain, Bye Bye Birdie, My Fair Lady, West Side Story, Gigi, and The Sound of Music. Gangsters, mafia, Barataria, Mardi Gras, jazz, and swing dancing so we made it a tribute to 1950's movie musicals! Hope you enjoy!
